Photoshop Elements 6 for beginners
Editing your photos, using programs such as Photoshop and Photoshop Elements is heaps of fun for both the new and advanced user. Although Photoshop is far richer in features than it's little brother, Photoshop Elements, the price for Photoshop puts it beyond the reach of most home users. However, do not sigh or sell your children so you can afford a copy, as this is in it's own bizarre way a blessing. Photoshop can be totally confusing!!! A new user to photo editing is likely to be so swamped with features, tools and different ways of doing the same task (for instance I can think of over 10 ways to turn a photo into black and white without even straining) that they are simply overwhelmed. This can get to the point that soem decide the whole photo editing thing is simply too hard and best left to others. So, what about Photoshop Elements? Quite frankly, for the average user there is still so much here that it is unlikely to be limiting your creativity. The user interface is easier that Photoshop, the tools less complicated ... but there is very little indeed that you'll not be able to accomplish. Start with learning the basics, as these will form the platform from which you branch out to learn more complicated tasks. I am mid producing a series of free video tutorials over at Dark Side of the Lens, so go and check that out to get yourself started. One nice thing is that Photoshop Elements is a fraction of the price of Photoshop. So, maybe one day you will outgrow Photoshop Elements, and that is great news if you do. If you reach that point you will have got amazing value from Photoshop Elements, and I do mean really amazing value. It would then be far easier to justify the price tag of Photoshop proper, as by then you'll be addicted to photo editing. Best of all, all the tricks, tools and shortcuts you've learnt in Photohop Elements you will still be using in Photoshop. You'll be stunned at what you can achioeve in no time at all, and at around $60 for Photoshop Elements you really can't go far wrong. So, as they say, learn to walk before you, well, sprint ;) Simon Natator |
